At a recent meeting of HQ, adjustments were made to recognize the sad passing of Del Staveley. Colonel Norman Pope has been appointed to replace him.
He joined Fort Fraser Garrison, Vancouver, as a Volunteer Sergeant in 1996, and attained the rank of Ensign. When he retired in Victoria in 2008, Fort Fraser asked him to form Fort Victoria Outpost. Having recruited sufficient members Fort Victoria was upscaled to a Garrison in 2009. He remained Officer Commanding until 2016, and was appointed Commander Pacific Region in 2017. He was appointed Regimental Second-in-Command in 2024 and Regimental Commandant in March of 2025.
In my formative years in Scotland I spent 7 years with the Boy Scouts ending up as Troop Leader. I then spent 2 years with the Army Cadets at my school in Edinburgh. I then joined the Territorial Army spending 2 years with the Royal Army Service Corps and then 4 years with the Royal Military Police.
In Canada I served as a Scoutmaster for 5 years with Boy Scouts Canada in Vancouver, and in 1990 I left and joined the Cadet Instructor Cadre. I was lucky to serve in 3 Highland Regiments all as CO of the Army Cadets: 8 years with the Seaforth Highlanders in Vancouver, 2 years with the Calgary Highlanders in Calgary, and 6 years with the 48th Highlanders in Toronto.
